Hope for East African Children (HEAC) is a non-profit started in Chicago IL that seeks to serve children's needs in the East African Region. This organization was founded by refugees who lived and went to school in the informal settlements and marginalized communities that we seek to help. We are committed to empowering kids in marginalized communities by strengthening access to basic education.
Our Vision is to realize a world where no child is denied an education due to gender, location or lack of supplies.
1. Increase the rate of performance in school of children in informal settlements through improved learning environments.
2. Increase the number of days children spend in schools each year.
3. Promote gender equality through enabling equal access to education for boys and girls.
We have identified seven public and community supported schools in Mombasa, Kenya, that are in need of additional support to provide higher quality education, sanitation and safety to their students. We want to together organizations and to partner with local communities, benefactors and various levels of government to address children's needs in these underserved areas.
Our Current Project bring The goal for our current desk project is to supply 30 new desks to seven schools in Mombasa. To support the local economy, we have hired local carpenters to build the desks. To date we have built 70 desks! Each desk cost $45 plus delivery fees. School started on January 5, and students are eager to have something to write on. Only $6,300 is needed to complete this project, Will you donate money for these desks?
